The billion dollar question, accompanied by the next ones-how does this affect me and my life and what, if anything, can I do about it? Help, it’s scary!
Many people state they can take a certain level of concern, but there can be a tipping point. For those, that tipping point can arrive much sooner than before and then it’s easy to fall into powerlessness, helplessness, insecurity, hopelessness and emptiness. Can you relate to that? We may have trouble finding the desire to get up to face the day while we end it dutifully scrolling through the (mostly bad) news, then as we try to sleep and not dream of monsters…we wake exhausted and it begins again.
What can we do?
When life feels aggressive, critical and out of control, sometimes the most profound things to start the shift are the most simple—breath.
The 4,4,4,4,4 (4×5) breath is one anyone can do. Breathe in for a slow count of 4 (practice breathing with the deep belly – not the chest), hold for a count of 4, breathe out for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4. Do this 4 times. It has a dramatic effect on the central nervous system and automatically calms the body. Set your phone timer for every hour, or do it when you first get in the car, before/after/during habitual scrolling (or receive a text from That Person…:-)
It can seem hopeless right now, but there’s plenty of Good in the world.
If we are calm, it’s easier to see it and practice it.
